ABOUT RENMA RECORDINGS:
Renma Recordings was founded in 2003 by acclaimed Jazz saxophonist, composer, arranger and producer, Virginia Mayhew. The label produces and distributes Classic Modern Jazz recordings featuring world-class Jazz musicians: Virginia Mayhew, Edward Ellington II, Ingrid Jensen, Harvie S, Noah Bless, Nancy Reed, Kenny Wessel, Victor Jones and others.
In addition to her musical accomplishments, Virginia has also achieved a 3rd Degree Blackbelt in Karate (Sandan) and "Ren Ma" is a Japanese phrase she learned from her karate grandmaster, Kaicho Tadashi Nakamura. Roughly translated "Ren Ma" means "constant polishing", an essential aspect of being a musician and an inspiring name for a Jazz label. Kaicho Nakamura is the founder and chairman of the World Seido Karate Organization, and Virginia is very honored that he created the beautiful calligraphy for the Renma Recordings logo.
